Many thanks again to all of you who pray and support us in so many ways. We couldn’t do any of this without your encouragement. Thank you!
Below is a review of our August and preview to what’s coming up this Fall at the 8:10 Project. Be sure to check out ways to get involved and pray with us for the youth and families of North Minneapolis!
August was the last of our 4 prayer walks, covering each neighborhood on the Northside. These were held at the request of Bishop Howell from Shiloh Temple and were sponsored in conjunction with: Shiloh, MARCH, Hope United, and the 8:10 Project. Many thanks the Melanie Leehy from MARCH in spear heading these walks and providing oversight.
One of the more special moments for me on this event was when a random stranger walked in to our gathering. As we were preparing to go out, a lady brought her teenage son in to the church from the Popeye’s across the street. She just happened to be in town from up north for a job training, and some how ended up wanting chicken which led her to us. She was hungry for prayer (in addition to chicken), and as a team we were
able to pray with her and her son to encourage their faith. This was such a wonderful reminder to me to stay faithful in the things God assigns you to do; because you never know where the fruit will come from. I was pretty tired before she walked in and looking forward to some time to rest; but after our encounter I was full of life and energy again that come from being united with the Father in His work. We were able to encounter and pray with many others throughout the day as a team.
Back to School Events
We also partnered with Antioch and Cru Ministries again this year to host back to school parties. Because of your generousity, we were able to serve well over 100 of our neighbors with supplies and packs for another year. Some highlights for me with these events:
- Neighborhood youth helped me pack bags at the Cru offices
- Neighborhood youth helped me pass out flyers
- Neighborhood youth helped us set up, serve food, and run the events
- Youth in a small rural town donated money from their VBS program to purchase many of the packs (Thank you Victory Church in Balaton!)
Our youth are leading the way! Please keep praying for our future leaders. Many new students signed up for our Fall programming; and it’s our express purpose that each student and family represented would know the Love of Jesus Christ.
Our back steps came down and new things continue to go up around the house and garage with the help of our neighbors and friends. We continue to work on the garage space to make it in to a place of prayer and a connection point for worship in the community. There is currently a group of young adults that meet in the space for dance, and I’d love for them all to grow in their love for Jesus through worship and the arts.
We are adding an additional day and time to connect with youth in North Minneapolis. This Fall, we will open the 8:10 Project home for tutoring
and mentoring with our neighbors. This time will be light on programming and high on connection points. If you would like to form lasting
relationships with our youth, we are still seeking volunteers to make this program a success. Each Tuesday from 4-6, we would like to encourage
youth in their homework and help them create something (cookies, crafts, ect). We would also welcome: prayer support during this time, crafts,
ingredients for baking, simple games, ect.
Antioch Youth Nights
Our Thursday Night partnership continues and we are still hopeful for a couple more volunteers. This is a structured program consisting of:
meals, games, Bible Studies, and homework assistance. We could use: prayer support during program (Thurs 5:30-7:30pm), food, games, volunteers for mentors or helpers with setup, cleanup, or meals. We will be having a training session for our Tuesday and Thursday nights next Thursday, so
reach out if you feel led to help. *Note, Thursday nights are held at Antioch’s Fremont location. Reach out for details.
Bible Study Fellowship
Our partnership with BSF continues Tuesday evenings from 7-9 at the 810 house location. If you are a man on the Northside or who has concern for
the North, join us this year as we study the book of Romans. We also are looking for some volunteers to intercede for the men of North during
this time. Let me know if that interests you.
Our outreaches continue every Thursday afternoon from 12:30-2pm. Each week will be different as we pray and ask God where He would like us to go
and who He’d like us to talk to. Come with us!
Special Monthly Outreaches
Our August/Sept outreaches were combined for the Back to School Events. Our next special outreach will be Halloween Night (end of Oct). This month, I’ll be taking some of our men to a Prayer and Outreach conference, and I’d appreciate your prayers for deep impact with the conference and our conversations.
- Our kids are starting another year of school. Please pray for their safety and encouragement!
- Miah is in her last semester at Northwestern College and is currently student teaching at the kids school! This was a huge answer to prayer.
Would you continue to pray for her strength and encouragement to finish well?
- Continue to pray with us for lasting fruit as we abide in the Love of Jesus.
We covet your prayers and can honestly feel God’s peace increase as
you cover us. Thank you!
Please continue to let us know ways we can be a blessing to you. How can we pray for you? Reach out or stop by to let us know!
