LORD, I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, LORD. Repeat them in our day, in our time make them known; in wrath remember mercy. Hab 3:2
This Winter lasted forever. As I reviewed April, I noticed pictures of kids making a snow forts and playing kickball in their shorts in the span of 10 days. As Winter disappeared, our yard instantly became full of neighborhood youth. They come to play games and see friends, but it’s also become a tiny respite in a desperate world. At night I hear parties, yelling, and violence and I imagine what it’s like being raised in that type of environment. I’m reminded that ministry and the Gospel aren’t ‘cute.’ It isn’t just a nice idea that God would love us and send His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sin. Our sin is real and the cost was violent. God poured out His wrath on His Son, so that I could become the Righteousness of God in Christ. How great is the Love of God, that He would call me His own child?
The Love and Mercy of God are overwhelming realities to encounter. I believe God has placed our family here to cry with our neighbors. Life is often hard and unfair. But God is tender and compassionate; full of mercy and unfailing love. He will never leave us or forsake us. The prayer from Habakuk is ours for this changing season (Summers are notoriously violent here. Last weekend there were 4 reported shootings.) “God, we’ve heard about you. We’ve heard you are full of Love and Power. Make yourself know to us, Jesus. In darkness, become a great Light. Pour out your mercy on us and bring revelation of your love to our hearts and our neighbors.”
Below you’ll see a few quick updates on our family and ministry. Again, we cannot fully express our gratitude in a letter or email; but “Thank You!” Your gifts of encouragement, prayer, and finances bless us more than you know.
Our men’s Bible study wrapped up in May. Our Tuesday and Thursday youth programming will be ending soon as well. We were blessed to build several fruitful ‘discipling’ relationships from these groups. We’ve been able to spend more time with some of the parents and youth outside of regular programming, and we’re starting to see some good signs of fruit. Please keep praying for these relationships to blossom in the Love of Christ!
Coming Up in May:
Pulse Event: May 19. We’ll be taking some neighborhood youth to a large outreach at the US Bank stadium. There wasn’t an event last year, but the 2 years prior we were able to take some neighborhood youth. I remember one teen exclaiming “I’ve never praised God like this before!” We’re hopeful for our youth to encounter to Spirit of the Living God at this event. Please pray with us for this.
Upcoming in June:
June 3: Community Cleanup. We’ll be hosting neighbors and church partners on June 3rd for our second annual “community cleanup event” from 9-12. Last year, we were able to pray with several neighbors along the way and several great doors for relationships and the Gospel were opened. Please keep us in your prayers again this year!
June 12: Summer BBQ’s start! Join us from 4-6:30 on the lawn at 810. We’ll have some good food, fellowship and games. If you’re interested in volunteering, please let me know! I’ll need some help with set up, tear down, and serving. Last year, this was a fantastic way to meet neighbors on a weekly basis and these events have led to open doors into neighbors homes. Keep these in your prayers as well!
June 15: Prayer and Worship evenings. Fridays throughout the summer we plan to host worship and prayer events at the house. More details to follow, but fervent and consistent prayer that exhalts the Name of Jesus and unites His Body has been on my heart for a long time. I’m hoping this can be a venue to do this.
June 28: Kids mini camps. We’ll be doing a series of mini camps with youth throughout the summer. These are a way for us to connect the kids to mentors, build life skills, and learn to creatively express their heart to God. The first mini camp will focus on photography. Others we are planning include: video, dance, and art.
Thanks so much for all of your prayers!
Let us know how we can pray for you!!!
